Jack, Seville – 18th March 2020 – Day 4 of the Lockdown

Internet worked better today with classes running much smoother than yesterday. I have been hearing various rumours of the UK entering into lockdown as well.

In the evening I popped to the supermarket to pick up a few bits and bobs. During the 5 minutes I was in there 2 different shoplifters were caught by the cashiers one of them was tackled to the ground and choked out. I felt that this was a bit extreme, however the other cashier assured me that he deserved it as over the years he had probably stolen 1000s of euros worth of stuff from that supermarket.

I came back to find that all my male housemates were cutting each other’s hair. They asked if I wanted a hair cut, although I was slightly tempted as my hair is getting slightly long now ,I respectfully declined.

Jack, Seville – 17th March 2020 – Day 3 of the Lockdown

Due to the Coronavirus the cleaning lady won’t be coming for the forseeable future so we have decided that we will be cleaning the house once a week between us using a rota system. Unfortunately for me I was first up, so I spent the majority of my morning cleaning up after 10 people.

I had more students attending class today, I think the boredom of being couped up at home is finally starting to get to them! Classes were going smoothly until my internet decided to throw a spanner in the works in the afternoon making my last couple of classes of the day a pixelated mess.

In the evening all of us in the house decided to meet in the central patio of our house to do a high intensity workout routine together. Hopefully this will become a regular thing as I’m going to need all the exercise I can get!

Hours Worked: 6

Jack Seville – Monday 16th March – Day 2 of the Lockdown

Woke up at 7.15 in the morning and got showered and prepared for my first online class beginning at 8.30. Unfortunately nobody turned up so i sat looking at my reflection for the next half an hour.

I was relieved that somebody actually turned up for the next two classes as I was starting to get bored..

I finished my classes at 10.30 so I had pretty much the entire day ahead of me. I decided to download a gameboy advance emulator so I could play some pokemon to pass the time.

Total number of hours Worked: 2

Netflix summary: 1 episode of Narcos Mexico

Albums listened to: Manu Chao: Clandestino

Juliet, Cardiff, 18 March 2020

Things are moving fast. Only two days after Leon was told he could work from home from next week, he’s heard rumours London is due to go into lockdown. He wants to come to stay with me in Cardiff where things are still relatively free.

We think that if London is locked down, it will happen without warning so people can’t flee. This is what was supposed to happen in Milan but a leak led to people heading out of town and the virus spreading. Leon’s heard the army is getting ready to block roads. Update: no longer a rumour, see pic.

Now comes the problem: Lily’s beloved cat is due to be put down in Twickenham on Friday and she wants to be there. Watch this space!

I’ve had to ask my AirBnB guest to cut his stay short by a few days. I feel very sorry for him as he’s just arrived to start a new job in Cardiff… at the worst possible time.

As if that wasn’t enough excitement for one day, mum has been taken back into hospital. She has high blood sugar and her pacemaker’s not working properly. Dad is very frazzled. I’m due to go up to Derbyshire on Friday. It was supposed to be to celebrate his 90th birthday, but events have overtaken us…

Simmering in a state of mild anxiety. Dog walking is the only thing keeping me sane. Raining again today, so here’s a pic from yesterday.

Just agonising about whether I dare enter mum and dad’s house when I go up at the weekend without trailing clouds of infection after me – only to phone up and find out my dad’s just got back from shopping at Sainsburys!

I hope they park a sentry near his front door when they force the over-70s to stay indoors, that’s all I can say…

At the other end of the spectrum, my cousin is quarantining with two of his kids (homebound from Dublin and London) for a week in my other cousin’s holiday cottage before rejoining his wife and mother-in-law in case they get infected.

Meanwhile in Italy, I hear that youngsters are ignoring the rules to stay at home and going off out clubbing – and their parents are getting fined.
