Mum and dad are much the same as yesterday, so all good news. Dad’s cough is taking time to settle down but at least he’s sleeping a bit better.

Glad to see the rubbish trucks finally doing the rounds. The bins were getting a bit full.

All the obscure cultural activities at the village hall are sadly being cancelled.

And no church services either…but a pretty funky door to admire at the Baptist church.

Messages of hope still springing up everywhere, but I haven’t seen any teddy bears yet…

Jack, Sevilla – April 2nd 2020 – Day 18 of the Quarantine

Some good news and bad news today. The bad news: the hot water is out again so once again I am going to be stewing in my own filth until we can get a plumber in!

The good news is that the Argentinians are making pizza tonight, which should be a nice treat! Other than that not much to report. The Covid19 situation seems to be getting a bit better every day, however it’s still impossible to know how much longer we are all going to be locked up for.

Just phoned Dad and he’s slowly improving. I got him a new mobile for people with hearing loss because he’s fallen over Chloe’s toys a few times while trying to get to the landline. Amazingly enough, he finds it easy to use and very clear. Here’s the number: 07495 092820.

Mum is also quite bright this morning and sitting out of bed having breakfast.

I went for my usual morning walk and spotted this monstrosity parked up behind Dethick church. Someone self-isolating in style?

The lambs really are very cute. Unfortunately you can’t get up close enough to get a decent photo.

Back in Cardiff. Lily is doing well with my new bird feeding station. She bought some sunflower hearts and has attracted goldfinches, tits and blackbirds. Unfortunately this fat pigeon came and plonked himself down yesterday and scared the rest away

Leon’s bought himself an Xbox and plays FIFA when he’s not working. Not much else to do now he can’t watch football.

Jack, Sevilla – April 1st 2020 – Day 17 of the Quarantine

There has been a distinct lack of April Fools day jokes today, most likely due to the current situation spreading more fake news would just be in bad taste. It’s been a fairly uneventful few days, one of the companies where I teach at has suspended all classes until further notice which is a bit of a kick in the teeth, hopefully the others won’t follow suit.

The news has began looking a bit more positive these past few days. Italy seems to be over the hurdle and is now making plans to relax the quarantine over the next few weeks. Apparently they are now allowing parents to go out with their children for one hour a day. Spain also seems to be showing signs that they are due to peak any day now. I’m hoping that it won’t be long before they let us out for exercise at least. With all the puddings that my housemates have been making it won’t be long before I balloon in size!

Am sitting in my usual spot to update this blog outside Dethick church. It’s peaceful with not a soul in sight. I’ve bought Chloe with me too today so she gets a longer walk.

Dad seems much better this morning, at least in spirits. He slept better and sounds less croaky, though he says progress is slow.

Just phoned Mum’s ward and she’s sitting out of bed in her chair eating breakfast. She’s been sent a special seat cushion because the nurses think she’s at risk of pressure sores. She isn’t quite ready to discharge as her heart rate is still a little high. I told the nurse to ask her what she thought of coming to stay with me at Netherlea Cottage, though I don’t really think it’s an option because she won’t be able to manage the stairs and bathroom.

Plenty of lambs in evidence today.

In other news, David Hockney is sending us flowers from Normandy.

I’ve been working hard and my new iPad and computer setup is going to make life much easier.

The arrival of wine supplies from Virgin was a cheering sight when I got back from dog walking
